The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) have released a position statement on gender dysphoria, and in it they explicitly acknowledge that “there are polarised views and mixed evidence regarding treatment options for people presenting with gender identity concerns, especially children and young people.”

He bravely turned up before the Select Committee, expressing concern about the medical intervention of changing one’s sex, the gender affirmation model being used under pressure by many health professionals, and saying that the “the bill is bound to infringe on individual rights”.

Bruce Logan expertly articulates many of the inherent problems with the Conversion Practices Prohibition Legislation Bill. He says the bill “is fraught with internal contradiction. It claims to be guarding the autonomy of homosexual and transgender people, but in doing so it actually denies the autonomy of other individuals and parents. The rights and freedoms affirmed by the Bill of Rights Act are ignored… The proposed legislation is a continuing attack on the foundation of Western civilisation’s philosophy of personhood; the rebellion of a generation that denies its material and spiritual history.”

The Government are trying to railroad the “conversion therapy ban” through parliament, but with more than 100,000 submissions there must be extra time given to properly review and consider them.
